We've made it all the way to "Z" once again over on the Alphabet Challenge and this time it's for "Zoology - The Study of Animals" and we would love to see your animal projects! I chose to use this beautiful dragonfly from Graciellie Design's digital stamp set "Hope & Strength".
I began by printing, watercoloring and fussy cutting the dragonfly image. I used some pearlized painted to really make the wings shimmer! I printed the sentiment and die cut it with a fishtail banner die.
I used a mix of smooshing, stenciling and stamping techniques with Distress Oxides to create the background panel on watercolor paper. I stamped some small scientific script and insect imagery on top with VersaMark Onyx Black Ink. The whole panel was spattered with pearl paint and set aside to dry in a heavy book. Once dry, I die cut it with a stitched rectangle die and glued it to an A2 black card base. I tore a piece of an old dictionary page, added a bit of ink and cut it with the same die. I glued this piece directly to the watercolor background and adhered the sentiment in place.
I gently folded the dragonfly's wings up and attached it with Scor-Tape just behind the narrow body. This allowed the wings to stay up off the card with no additional foam tape underneath. I added just a few clear droplets and centered one over the word "live", magnifying it from the rest of the text. I haven't created a background like this for a while and was happy with the result! You never know how it's going to turn out!
We can't wait to see your "Zoology" projects over at the Alphabet Challenge! Thanks so much for stopping by today! Have a great weekend!
