Hello!
I've got a great project for you today featuring lots of Ranger's "Grit Paste" and an adorable gargoyle guarding the crypt! This handsome guy is a digital stamp from the "Gargoyle Friends" Set created for Whimsy Stamps by the talented illustrator, Dustin Pike. His whimsical (and comedic) images are so expressive and they add a humorous touch to any project! Here's a shot of the full digi set:
I downloaded/printed this little guy on 110# white card stock and spent an hour watercoloring him - focusing on getting the candlelight reflection correct. The image was fussy cut and all of the cut edges were painted black so that he would fade into the background on the card. I do this with all of my fussy cut images that will be on a contrasting background so that white cut line doesn't pop.
I applied Ranger's "Crypt Grit Paste" through the "Brick Pattern Stencil" onto a piece of heavy black card stock and let it dry; the panel was painted with Distress Oxide Ink and watercolors to look aged. I die cut the NEW "Thorny Frame" three times from the same black card stock, glued the pieces together and applied the same surface treatment to this piece. The frame came out super textural and perfectly matched the brick background!
I wanted everything to sit on top of a simple concrete-looking background panel (lighter in value) and I inked the edges of a light grey card stock with "Hickory Smoke" Distress Oxide Ink and spritzed it with "Empty Tomb" Distress Mica Stain. A little of this same mica spray color was added to the frame and background.
I determined the placement of the Thorny Frame/gargoyle and then spritzed just a bit of the "Flickering Candle" Distress Mica Stain in the areas where his candles would be glowing. The small RIP plaque was die cut and painted with a bit of the mica stains as well to highlight the writing. All of the pieces were adhered together with glue/craft foam and the entire panel was attached to an A2 card base. The card front really looks like stonework and the small spritz of the golden mica stain highlights the candle's glow! This is one of those projects I like so much that I will be tempted to keep it for myself!
