Christmas Card | Picket Fence Studios - Slim Line "Our Town" Cover Plate Die Set

Hello!

I’ve got a graphic Christmas card design for you today filled with lots of ink-blending and Paper Glitz die cut panels! The NEW Paper Glitz colors - Purple Prism and Black Rainbow - are really amazing and I built my palette around them! I also used the "Merry Christmas Word Topper" Die and the "Slim Line Our Town" Cover Plate Die Set, which features this long rooftop skyline and detailed Santa's Sleigh with reindeer!

Here's the YouTube Video Tutorial I made for this card and it's filled with lots of

great ink-blending tips and personal go-to tricks!

I started by dolloping a quarter-sized amount of each paper glitz color onto separate panels of black card stock with my large offset palette knife and spread the glitz in long strokes for an even thin layer. The panels were set aside to dry. The background panel was ink blended with the following Distress Oxide Inks:
Spun Sugar
Milled Lavender
Shaded Lilac
Dusty Concord
Wilted Violet
Blueprint Sketch
Chipped Sapphite
Black Soot

I always start with a panel just a bit bigger than I need so that I can trim it down later and this one measured 4.5 x 11" with a 2.5 circle die as the mask for my moon, which was just held in place with a piece of low tack tape on the back. It took me about 25 minutes to blend this background with my "Life Changing Blender Brushes" and it was completed with a quick spritz of shimmer mist and some spattering with white pearlized paint! The background was trimmed down to 4" x 8.5" and attached to a slim line card base.

At this point, the Paper Glitz panels were dry and each one was cut with the rooftops die and the “Merry Christmas Word Topper” was cut from the leftover piece of the Purple Prism panel.  Since the Black Rainbow die cut was going to be in the foreground, I needed to add a section of purple card stock to the back to cover up the window openings. So I used the negative die cut piece as my template to sketch my outline, fussy cut the image and added it to the backside with liquid adhesive.

To assemble the city scene, I determined that I could hide the place where the purple die cuts came together behind the tallest church steeple on the black foreground panel. So I marked their positions and glued the pieces in place. The sleigh/reindeer silhouette die cut was also glued directly onto the panel.

I added a 1/4” strip of heavy chip board to the very bottom of card front panel and attached the Black Rainbow panel on top with some foam tape pieces. This small bit of thickness added a lot of dimension to this scene! A few of the holographic snowflakes from the 1950’s Christmas Sequin Mix Plus were added in the night sky to finish up the card!

Thanks so much for joining me today and I hope you'll check out the video!
