Halloween Card | Whimsy Stamps - "Dracula Bite Me" Clear Stamp Set

Hello!

I'm going to tell you a secret...when I was 5-years-old, we went to the Cincinnati Zoo for the first time. In the nocturnal animal area, they had a big cavelike display of vampire bats and a video about the myths and misconceptions of this misunderstood creature. One of the videos showed clips from famous vampire movies - so at that time (in the late 60's) it would have been the very scary versions of Dracula - not the romantic "Twilight Edward" versions of today! From that day on until I was in middle school, I had nightmares about vampires and literally couldn't sleep without pulling the covers up to protect my neck! I eventually got over that fear and now I see all the vampire movies, read all the books and can now chuckle at my childhood angst! So now this little Dracula doesn't scare me one bit!

I created two backgrounds working on heavy-weight black card stock and used a combination of Distress Oxides and pearlized watercolors. The foreground panel was cut with the grassy graveyard die from the "Howling Night" Die Set. I really love this die because you can move it from one end to the other to extend the length of the scene! Taking the negative die cut pieces, I used them as a stencil and inked up against them to build he grass layers in front. I spattered lots of watercolor and ink on the back panel, painted the lightning strike with Copic White Ink and added a a lot more spatters of white at the top where the bolt was coming out of the sky.

Dracula (from the "Dracula Bite Me" Stamp Set) was inked, watercolored and fussy cut. The background was trimmed and adhered to a 6 x 6" card base and the foreground was also cut to size. Once I had determined placement, I prepped the foreground with my anti-static powder tool and heat embossed the sentiment with white powder. The foreground was glued into place on the lightning panel, Dracula was popped up with foam tape and few purple and blue sequins finished up the card. I just love his look of disdain - this is the same look I give my husband when he tries to ask me foolish questions before I've had my coffee!

Thanks so much for joining me today and happy crafting!
