Halloween Card | Whimsy Stamps - "Boo"/"Spiders and Webs" Die Sets

HEY BOO!

I can't wait to share this project with you today...because it turned out exactly like I had it pictured it in my head (and that's not always the case!) I wanted this die cut design to have a soft, pretty look to it with just a touch of a bokeh effect so I started by inking colored panels using the direct-to-paper technique with Distress Oxides (Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Kitsch Flamingo and Spiced Marigold). These panels were spritzed with shimmer mist and spattered with diluted white paint; this gave me a soft, pinky-peach palette to work with!

Using the "Bold ABC Die Set", I die cut the letters for the "HEY" from my inked panels and the word sentiment and ghosts images from the "Boo Die Set" were cut from heavy white card stock. Just the "B" was die cut again and trimmed to the correct shape/size and the spiral was used as the bottom of the exclamation point! Here's a closeup of the word die so you can see the details!

The delicate webs and spider were cut using one of my all-time favorite Halloween die sets, "Spiders and Webs". The images in this set are so well drawn and the realistic poses of the spiders are super creepy! The last images to be cut were the mini flying bats from the "Haunted Graveyard Border Die Set".

The background was created by inking a large oval in the center of the card stock panel (5.5" 8.5") with "Picked Raspberry" Distress Oxide and then blending it into "Black Soot" on all sides. This produced an area of a pinkish glow in the center where the sentiments would be located. Shimmer mist, large water droplets and pearlized paint spatters were added to the panel to give it a glowing "bokeh" effect.

I played around with the all of the die cut elements in order to come up with a design that I liked, took a quick picture with my phone and then cut the panel down to fit that layout. This card is an odd size (5" x 6.25" - kind of a squat A7) but the proportion looks great with the images and the trimmed panel was attached to a card base.

Using the photo on my phone, the die cuts were all carefully glued back into place on the card front and a few bits of "Glazed Cherry Confetti" and "Glazed Peach Confetti" were added to finish up the design!

I hope you found a few tips & tricks today that you can use in your projects!

Take care and happy crafting!
Rachelle
